Use Central Myeongdong for maximum assortment and foreign-visitor services; N Seongsu for trend discovery and experience; Hongdae for a mixed youth-culture day; a nearby branch for a known list.

“Go to Olive Young” is no longer useful advice. By 2026, Olive Young has become a major part of Korea travel itself, and the experience is very different depending on the store. A visitor who wants to buy ten known products quickly should not shop the same way as somebody who wants to discover new Korean brands. Myeong-dong is optimised for international visitors and maximum assortment. Olive Young N Seongsu is designed around trend experience and discovery. Hongdae makes sense when beauty shopping is part of a youth-culture day. A neighbourhood branch can be better than all of them if you already know what you need.

The scale helps explain why stores feel busy. CJ Olive Young said that by August 2026 foreign-customer purchases at its Korean offline stores had already exceeded KRW 1 trillion. Foreign customers represented 33% of offline sales, and shoppers using tax-refund data came from 192 countries. The five largest foreign-customer markets included the United States, Singapore, Japan, China and Thailand. The average foreign shopper bought six items, while 35% spent at least KRW 100,000 in a single purchase.

Central Myeongdong Town: best for breadth and visitor efficiency

CJ Olive Young opened Central Myeongdong Town in March 2026. The company describes it as a three-floor, roughly 950-pyeong global-specialised store and the second-largest Olive Young in Korea after N Seongsu. It carries about 1,000 brands and 15,000 products, the largest assortment among Olive Young stores at the time of opening.

Myeong-dong's visitor profile is unusually international. CJ reported that the previous Myeongdong Town was the chain's highest-sales store in 2025 and that approximately 95% of its sales came from foreign customers. This makes Central Myeongdong Town the easiest choice for a first-time visitor who values multilingual guidance, broad assortment and a shopping environment built around overseas demand.

Trade-off: it is also the place most likely to encourage overbuying. The assortment is huge and the store is explicitly designed to expose international shoppers to more K-beauty. Go in with a category list, not a vague intention to “see what is popular.”

Olive Young N Seongsu: best for discovery and contemporary K-beauty

N Seongsu is a different product. CJ said it exceeded 2.5 million cumulative visitors in its first year, and that three out of four foreign visitors to the Yeonmujang-gil area visited N Seongsu. Across six Olive Young stores in the Seongsu commercial area, the foreign-sales share rose to 70% by October 2025. At the same time, N Seongsu was also the Olive Young store most visited by Korean domestic customers over its first year.

That combination matters. Seongsu is not simply a “tourist Olive Young.” It is a place where Olive Young tests new concepts and where trend-sensitive local consumers also shop. CJ reported that among domestic purchasers at N Seongsu, 47% were in their 20s and 82% had a high rate of trying new products. The store has also introduced more than 150 brands that were new to Olive Young at the time.

Trade-off: discovery consumes time. If you only need sunscreen, cleanser and a few gifts, Myeong-dong or a nearby branch can be more efficient.

How to shop without overspending: the 30 / 60 / 120 minute method

30 minutes — replacement shopping

Use this when you already know the categories. Buy only from a written list: for example cleanser, sunscreen, moisturiser, lip product and gifts. Give yourself one “discovery” item maximum. Ignore ranking walls unless they help choose between products already on your list.

60 minutes — controlled discovery

Split the basket into three parts: must buy / compare / optional. Finish must-buy items first. Then compare no more than three products in each uncertain category. Put optional products in the basket only after the essentials are complete. This prevents the common pattern of spending most of the budget on promotions before finding the items you actually came for.

120 minutes — flagship experience

This is appropriate for Central Myeongdong or N Seongsu. Build in time for testing, skin analysis or trend zones, but still use a budget cap. A flagship visit should buy you better decisions, not simply a larger receipt.

Use a basket architecture, not a product ranking

Basket layerRuleWhy
Core routineReplace products you already use or clearly needLowest risk of buying something that never gets used.
Problem-solving itemOne product for one defined concernPrevents buying several overlapping serums/actives.
Discovery itemLimit to one or twoPreserves the fun of K-beauty discovery without turning the whole basket into experiments.
GiftsSet quantity and per-person budget firstMulti-buy promotions can make gift spending expand quickly.

Do not confuse “popular with foreigners” with “best for you”

Olive Young's 2026 data shows that foreign-customer demand is extremely large, and the most common purchased categories are skincare, colour cosmetics and hair care. But a popularity wall does not know your skin sensitivity, climate at home, current routine or whether you will actually repurchase the product. Use popularity as a discovery signal, not a prescription.

If you have reactive or allergy-prone skin, read the Sensitive Skin K-Beauty guide. For sunscreen decisions, use the Korean Sunscreen guide. If the purchase is large, check the Korea Tax Refund guide before checkout.

Sales: when a discount is real value

Olive Young sale periods can be genuinely useful, especially for products you already planned to buy. CJ reported that repeat foreign visitors returning for consecutive Olive Young sale periods increased sharply over the past three years. The behavioural lesson is simple: a sale is valuable when it reduces the price of a planned basket. It is not savings when the promotion causes you to double the basket.

Myeong-dong for breadth and visitor convenience. Seongsu for discovery and experience. Hongdae for a mixed shopping/nightlife day. Your nearest branch for execution. The “best” Olive Young depends more on your mission than on store size.
