K-Beauty Shopping in Seoul: Visitor-Favourite Stores Ranked — Mikey Korea comparative guide

K-beauty shopping in Seoul has become so popular that “go to Olive Young” is no longer enough advice. The Myeongdong and Seongsu flagships serve very different travellers; CHICOR now has stores where around nine in ten sales come from foreign customers; and Beauty Play lets you test Korean products before spending anything at all.

This guide ranks visitor usefulness, not “the best company”. The ranking combines published foreign-customer data, product breadth, tourist services, location and the kind of shopping problem each place solves.

Why Olive Young Myeongdong Town is still the most useful first stop

CJ describes Myeongdong Town as its largest and most tourist-friendly store, with multilingual services, bilingual displays, a global service lounge and tourist-oriented product curation. The strongest evidence is the customer mix: the company has reported that international visitors make up about 90% of the store’s customers.

The advantage is not that every product is cheaper. It is that you can compare many brands quickly in a location most first-time Seoul visitors already pass through. Use it to build a shortlist, not to buy ten viral items because they are stacked near the entrance.

Why N Seongsu is better for trend hunting

Olive Young N Seongsu is closer to an exhibition-style beauty destination. CJ reported more than one million visitors within four months of opening and an average of about 8,000 visitors a day at that stage, with international customer sales around 70% of revenue. VISITKOREA also highlights Seongsu as a K-beauty pilgrimage area with brand flagships and pop-ups nearby.

Choose Seongsu when discovering emerging brands matters more than minimising walking time.

Why CHICOR deserves a place in a first-time guide

CHICOR gives visitors a useful second lens on the market. Shinsegae opened new Myeongdong and Hongdae stores with roughly 230 brands and subsequently reported that foreign-customer sales accounted for 90.2% and 91% respectively in April 2026. That is unusually strong evidence that these are not merely “local stores tourists might like”—they are already being used heavily by international shoppers.

CHICOR is especially useful if you want a more curated premium-makeup mix or want to compare the products being pushed by two different Korean retail ecosystems.

Beauty Play: the smartest stop before an expensive basket

Beauty Play in Myeongdong is not the place to maximise shopping bags. It is a Korea Cosmetics Industry Institute experience centre supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Official tourism information describes skin evaluation, personal-colour testing, makeup touch-ups, product testing and rotating displays. For a visitor unsure about undertone, skin type or unfamiliar brands, that can be more valuable than another ranking shelf.

How to shop K-beauty without becoming a ranking victim

  1. Choose a need first: cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, complexion, lip or one treatment concern.
  2. Compare two retailers: the same product can be promoted differently across chains.
  3. Use rankings as discovery, not diagnosis.
  4. Patch-test unfamiliar formulas and avoid replacing an entire routine at once.
  5. Check tax-refund eligibility and receipt requirements before opening products.

Price is not the only comparison

A store can look cheaper because one item is on promotion while another chain bundles gifts, offers a tourist coupon, or stocks a larger size. Compare the exact product, size and set composition before deciding. For products you intend to claim a tourist tax refund on, keep the receipt and check the current refund rules before opening or consuming goods whose eligibility could depend on export conditions.

Do not assume the busiest flagship is always the best place to buy. A neighbourhood Olive Young can be calmer and carry the same routine basics. The flagships earn their place in this ranking because they concentrate discovery, services and visitor data—not because every purchase must happen there.

What the national numbers tell us

CJ’s 2025 impact report says foreign purchases at Olive Young exceeded 9.42 million transactions in 2024 across 1,312 stores, with sales up 151% year on year. That scale explains why beauty shopping has become a mainstream tourism activity rather than a niche K-pop side trip.

MikeyKorea take: Myeongdong is the easiest comparison market, Seongsu is the best trend laboratory, CHICOR is a valuable second retailer, and Beauty Play is the best “slow down before buying” stop.
